Hatfield UK Challenge Valentines Meet

Saturday 4th February

 

With virtually all the 12 and under swimmers involved in the Thames Valley League and most of the older swimmers at the Hatfield Valentines Meet it was a busy weekend for Amersham Swimming Club, and, in spite of the weather trying to make it difficult for everyone, a very successful weekends swimming.

 

Amersham came away from Hatfield with a grand total of 50 medals, including 16 Bronze, 13 Silver and 21 Gold.

There were PBs a plenty and a great camaraderie as the heats often became an Amersham showdown in what is a favourite venue for the swimmers.

A big thank you to Tweeter in Residence - Bev Hancock, who kept us all informed about the swimming rivalry's and, of course, being Hatfield - the "magic trees".

Congratulations to the medal winners and all those who improved on their entry times, perfect preparation for the County Championships starting in a couple of weeks time.

There were a number of New Club records set especially in the new 13 & 15 age groups but also five of the longer standing records were broken, including:

100m Fly record held by Daniel Shinnie since 2007 now belongs to Dan Barraclough 16 in 1:00.08

Sophie Elphick's early 100m Breaststroke set in 2006, now held by Millie Patrick 12 in 1:20.73Many of the times set would appear to be Age Group or Youth Regional times, well done if you have secured those, but a special mention to Sarah Hammond who won a Bronze Medal with her long course 100m Fly time of 1:05.99 in the Zonal Championships which is also a National Qualifying Time.
