Music lessons with a difference in Amersham

Did your child receive a guitar, drums or keyboard from Santa this Christmas? If they have dreams of being part of a band and you want them to learn to play properly, then look no further.

Brothers Dominic Gamble-Kempe and Jerome Kempe think they have the answer for budding Chesham musicians at Clive's Easylearn Pop Music School which is held every Saturday at Amersham Common Village Halls, White Lion Road, in Amersham on Saturday mornings from 9.30am.

The school (for children aged seven and over) trains students in pop and rock music on guitar, bass, drums and keyboards.

The one-hour lessons, which begin with a 45-minute Easylearn session during which the students learn from unique Easylearn course material and which end in a 15-minute Easyjam session during which the students and tutors all play together as a band, teach students how to play their instrument first, bringing in theory later.

Dominic, 37, a solicitor by day who also plays in Chesham-based band Loose Covers, said: "We want our students to learn to play something new and have fun with it rather than have boring lessons.

"Most kids are put off by the difficult theory. Obviously you can't avoid it and theory is introduced in the first few months but by this time the kids can already play the instrument so they don't get bored."

Father-of-two Jerome, 34, a distribution manager, said: "All the Easylearn Music Schools follow the same rigid teaching formula. Students follow a structured, modular course in their chosen instrument, which usually takes about 18 months to complete.

"The Easyjam sessions allow students to play as a band from day one, which will give them huge confidence, plus playing with other kids is more exciting than practising on your own."

Weekly lessons run at Amersham Common Village Halls, White Lion Road, in Amersham on Saturday mornings from 9.30am and then on Saturday afternoons at 1st Chesham Scout Group Headquarters, East Street in Chesham from 2.30pm.
