Put your extra thick socks on and dig out the hot water bottle as forecasters predict the possibility of snow this week, but early reports show that Amersham could escape the white stuff.

Today and tomorrow temperatures won't creep up above 3C, and will dip as low as -3C. The mercury will dip to -4C by Thursday evening where it will remain, only rising up to 1C over the weekend.

In the meantime we will suffer heavy frosts and ice, so Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service is encouraging drivers to be prepared. Community safety manager Chris Bailey said: "Motorists have certainly had plenty of practice at coping with bad weather in recent years. By now, everyone should know that a bit of planning and preparation and a lot of care and attention can make all the difference."

He is urging motorists to follow this advice:

  • Allow more time for your journey.
  • Listen to local and national radio for travel and weather information.
  • Slow down and leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front.
  • Check your tyres, lights, wiper blades, anti-freeze and battery, and keep windows and mirrors clear of ice and condensation.
  • Be prepared  – carry an ice-scraper, de-icer, torch, warm clothes, blanket, boots, spade, food, drink and first aid kit in your vehicle.

Upload your cold weather pictures from the homepage or see the pictures from last year's snow here.

Yes, plus in Amersham on the Hill you can get down but you can't get up again! No sledge for Christmas but did get new boots!

Much as I love the snow and how pretty it is and how clean it makes the place look, I really am dreading it coming! Last year was a nightmare getting to work and someone crashed into me, so I pray it somehow manages to miss Bucks this year, sorry to all those who got a sledge for Christmas!
