A guide to beer gardens and outdoor restaurants in Amersham to enjoy this summer.
Amersham has plenty of grassy spots, courtyards and patio's so you'll not miss out on the tanning potential of these elusive sunny spells. Here is our guide:
PUBS & BEER GARDENS
* Sugar Loaf Inn in Little Chalfont has a great big beer garden in the back as well as a few picnic tables in the front, so you can catch both the morning and afternoon sun. Their delicious food and roasts and delightful service make for a great lounging/cider/snacking session during the summer. They also have convenient parking at the back, don't forget. A garden your pooch may be able to join you in as well.
* Moving over to Old Amersham, we can't miss the Crown Inn, with it's pretty courtyard and summer kitchen which opens from May to September, serving meat from the grill, summer salads and cold ales. They also have a secure garden at the back for larger groups with wandering kiddies.
* Up in Amersham new town, the Boot & Slipper is the one with the picnic tables to nab, serving a mix of traditional and contemporary pub food, with seasonal twists. The Boot and Slipper has plenty of space outside for larger groups to enjoy the summer sun.
OUTDOOR RESTAURANTS
* Starting in Little Chalfont again, with a bit of authentic Italy, Rucola has an outdoor area for a relaxing and superb meal on a summer's eve. Of course, you don't want to miss out on their tribute event evenings with Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra making appearences (not really, but close) this summer.
* Down in the old town, Gilbey's with its attractive garden, afternoon teas and grazing menu makes for a delightful way to spend a summer afternoon. Described by the Good Food Guide 2011 as a 'model of a dependable neighbourhood bistro', Gilbey's remains a faithful servant to the locals of Old Amersham and further afield.
* Back up to the new town where the high street is lined with cafes and restaurants featuring a few tables on the pavement, where you can sip a brew and enjoy the bustle of the Amersham high street.

Most of the pubs in Old Amersham have little beer gardens at the back, yet you wouldnt think so! The Kings Arms has a great courtyard and beer garden which is probably one of the biggest. The Swan and also Elephant & Castle have beer gardens too - the Elephant has one that backs onto the stream which is pretty, some shelter too if you don't want to be totally exposed.
