Amersham Fire Station opened in 1953 and underwent a 500k refurbishment in 2007/2008
In January 2008, after 55 years in operation, the station underwent a massive half a million pound refurbishment to bring it into the 21st century.
The redevelopment ensured that the staff had separate locker room, kit room, watch room and storage room; a room for servicing breathing apparatus; a gym with shower and improved toilet facilities; a room for training and study sessions; designated laundry facilities; kitchen/dining area and an admin office.
The station officially reopened in March 2009 with a brand new 1/4 of a million pound fire truck called a Scania P270 Rescue Pump. Mrs Hopkirk, Vice Lord Lieutenant for Buckinghamshire said of the truck: 'The total cost of this fire engine, including all the latest fire fighting and rescue equipment it carries, is something in the region of a quarter of a million pounds - although of course fully laden with its cargo of firefighters, its absolutely priceless'.
As well as battling fire and keeping the residents of Amersham safe, the firefighters at Woodside Road Fire Station recently came across a situation that was a little out of the ordinary, even for them - a woman who's snake had become stuck in her bracelets, requiring her bracelets to be cut off in order to get the snake free.
