Chiltern Moving Art – Kathak – The Nomadic Bards from Northern India at Dr Challoners High School
The dance recitals were based on the Indian classical dance form 'Kathak'. It was an evening to remember as the dancers took the audience back to the roots of story telling through vibrant colours, music, exquisite hand and body gestures and facial expressions.
With pure Indian classical dance, the dancers performed the contemporary form of Kathak without breaking the rules of the form. Jaina Modasia's dance performance with the video of 9/11 at the backdrop helps audience to see the dance in its own form in a contemporary epitome.
The group performances in their colourful costume with the traditional bangles tied to their feet gave the audience the feel of a Mogul courtyard in Little Chalfont.
The other performer, Jatanil Banerjee, a graduate from Royal College of Music, mesmerised the audience with his own classical composition and his voice.
The accompanying slides in the backdrop brought the mood and the feel of the Indian music called Raga, as explained by the compere. Sound and lights were extraordinary. However the little break between the dance pieces could have been reduced with a better management.
The audience didn't only spent the evening with Indian classical music and dance, but also got a treat of pure Indian food during the break. Mayor of Amersham Mimi Harker gave vote of thanks and thanked the organisation Chiltern Moving Art for bringing such grace, beauty and talent to the Chiltern. The show was supported by Chiltern District Council.
Their future programmes can be viewed on their website www.chilternmovingart.co.uk
